Another great idea specially for video enthusiast. Capcom Games recently launched the Capcom Bar in Tokyo complete with in-house game kiosks and game inspired dishes.

They opened the bar in the Shinjuku area in Tokyo. The Bar’s playful menu features a range of dishes inspired by the company’s famous releases. On offer is a meat dish recreating the stamina-boosting drumstick from the game Monster Hunter, black and white seafood pasta reminiscent of Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney and a Resident Evil-inspired brain cake. Keiji Maeda, of action title Sengoku Basara, now has a floral octopus carpaccio recipe in his honor, joining the many other characters on the bar’s colorful food and drinks menu. Even popular cocktails have had a makeover, re-imagined as vaccines with a syringe replacing the traditional umbrella. The restaurant has already opened and Capcom hopes to entice games fans with prices per dish of around JPY 680 or around P340 here in the Philippines. Alongside the gaming kiosks already in place, future plans include a merchandise stall and in-house events — from live shows and talks to competitions — to engage diners.

While themed restaurants are nothing new, the Capcom Bar is an interesting example of a company expanding tangentially from their usual line of work. Plenty of inspiration here for the Philippine game enthusiast market.

Good news for video afficionados. According to Dynamic Business base in Australia, the corner video store isn’t dead in Australia: Not even close, says the The Network Group Managing Director Keran Wicks, who reports the company’s balance sheet remains strong as do its 300 Network Video store members around the country.

Wicks said The Network Group, Australia’s second largest DVD rental group, remains in a good position. “I keep reading articles about how this business is dying but that’s not what I’m seeing on our balance sheet – and it’s not what I’m hearing when I talk to some of our 300 plus Network Video member stores.”

“The DVD rental business is a billion dollar business in this country and it’s not going to disappear tomorrow or next year or the year after that.” Perhaps there is still some chance on these business here in the Philippines with just a small tweak to make it work again.

The Filipino OFW’s is quite a big market and this idea might click here in the Philippines. With so many reasons why a loved one may not be nearby to read a bedtime story to a child, a company the U.S. is making it easier for there love ones to reconnect in a special way. Be There Bedtime Stories was founded by Alison Sansone, a dedicated aunt. She wanted a fun way to keep in contact with her nieces, so she did a little digging and came up with a fun bedtime story business that would allow anyone with a webcam and Internet access say goodnight to the kids they love.

According to a report in The Orange County Register, they have partnered with Blue Star Families to bring bedtime stories from moms and dads serving in the American military to their children back home. She originally thought about putting recording kiosks in big stores like Costco and Target in the States and creating DVDs that could be mailed. But technology such as Skype and Videochat have become so widespread that Sansone adjusted her business model to allow people to record their stories using their own webcams, the Internet and a easy-to-use website.

The site has more than 200 children’s e-books from six publishers and a recording starts at $9.99.
“We’re giving free stories to Blue Star Families (a military support organization), and we’ve donated a supply of web cams to them to give to families here so the kids can read stories for their soldier parent to watch,” Sansone.

Sansone said, “Soldiers are moms, dads, grandparents, aunts and uncles first. They are also our friends and neighbors. A webcam recorded bedtime story can connect them with their family in a powerful way, boosting their morale by letting them take off their helmet and put on their family hat for a while.” For the Philippines its perfectly fit for long distance parents working abroad while there children are in the Philippines.

This is a new twist to kids playground found in every malls in the Philippines. What would Disneyland be like if children could work in the mines with the Seven Dwarves, engineer the Disneyland Railroad, or sweep out Sleeping Beauty’s Castle? If they got paid and could deposit their earnings in Uncle Scrooge McDuck’s Bank, it would be a little like KidZania, a multinational chain of family entertainment centers, where kids try out professions that have been downsized, simplified, and made fun. At these soccer field-size franchises in malls from Tokyo to Lisbon, children play at being adults. The Morning News has more on this: Right now, in eight malls spread across three continents, thousands of children are dressed as pilots and flying digital planes from mock cockpits, anchoring news broadcasts in fully functional TV studios, or wearing helmets and extinguishing faux flames with real water cannons.

Children can play surgeon, detective, journalist, courier, radio host, and dozens more jobs. They can buy and sell goods at the KidZania supermarket, take KidZania currency that they earn to an operational bank staffed with adult tellers, and be security guards escorting KidZania currency around the park. They can assemble burgers and pizzas, which they can then eat, or give makeovers to other paying children. At the planned KidZania Santiago, Chile, minors will be able to play at being miners. One-size-fits-all costumes supersize the cute factor. The result of all this is mass-produced adorability. Great negosyo ideas for those planning to open a new kids playground in malls.

We all know, you can’t easily travel to North Korea, but a restaurant near Washington DC in the U.S. can give you a taste of what’s in the country. You can sample their recipes at a new North Korean restaurant called Pyongyang Soondae (or Pyongyang Sausage in English): Washington City Paper has the full details of the story:

The first thing you notice on the menu is what isn’t there: beef. It’s the essential feature of South Korean restaurants, particularly in barbecue form: beef ribs and bulgogi.

But Pyongyang Soondae—Pyongyang Sausage—isn’t a South Korean restaurant. It’s North Korean, so the menu skews toward seafood, poultry—and pork, pork, pork. The staple meat of the South is nowhere to be seen, except in a single soup dish. That would be naengmyun, the one northern dish every Korean knows, a buckwheat noodle soup with cucumbers and slices of beef, served cold, often with ice cubes in the broth.

Most Korean restaurants advertise “Pyongyang naengmyun” as a mark of authenticity, regardless of whether their chefs have ever been to the totalitarian-ruled city that serves as the soup’s namesake. Pyongyang Soondae does them one better, serving its version with balls of pheasant meat.

It is a really fascinating story. The restaurant is run by a former North Korean spy who converted to Christianity and devotes a portion the proceeds to refugee rescue and relief work, and efforts to oppose the Pyongyang government. Of the approximately fifteen North Koreans who have been resettled in the D.C. area under the North Korean Human Rights Act, eight work for the restaurant. This would be a great negosyo idea for those planning to open a new restaurant with a unique theme in the Philippines.

Have you ever noticed that pizza parlor with free deliveries are proliferating around the Philippines nowadays? You might be thinking of starting your own too, well here is a good niche negosyo idea for pizza from About.com’s Entrepreneur Guide they recently discovered, an entrepreneur who is rolling in dough…pizza dough.

I recently attended a charity event on eastern Long Island and met Matthew Michel, the founder of Rolling in Dough Pizza Co., a mobile pizza truck with a wood-fired oven that caters parties on Long Island and in New York City. The pizza was delicious, custom made, and prepared fast. The truck was a work of art — a restored 1943 International Harvester.

What led you to start this particular business?

During the summer of 2007, my sister decided she would have a pizza truck at her rehearsal dinner. I thought, what a bizarre idea, and then I saw the truck and fell in love. Not only was it an antique truck, with a wood-fired oven on it but it was good pizza and a huge hit with all the guests. On my drive back to Long Island I quickly realized that I would be starting my own truck on Long Island. To me it felt like the perfect demographic for this type of business and it turned out I was right.

What’s been the most surprising thing about the business?

I was very surprised at how quickly people started finding out about me. After only a few weeks, I was getting calls from Westchester and New York City, not to mention the Hamptons. I totally underestimated the power of word of mouth. I knew the truck would generate free press but beyond that it’s all word of mouth and people sure can talk.

What’s the most challenging part of the business?

Keeping everything in working order on the truck. Everything is constantly being exposed to the elements. If the wind doesn’t break the hinge on the refrigerator door, then the electrical re-charging system will attempt to fail. If everything is functioning with the back part of the truck, then most likely something will happen to the truck itself. It never ends and it can be very, very frustrating.

You can further read it at “This Entrepreneur is Rolling in Dough…Pizza Dough”

Birthday Parties, Weddings, here is a new twist to ice cream business here in the Philippines. At a Jonas Brothers concert in the US. Felicia Hatcher, owner of Feverish Ice Cream Trucks in Miami is a walking advertisement for her business, which puts a cool, updated spin on traditional ice cream trucks, from a story at Inc.com.

I wear these shirts with funny sayings about my business on the back such as, ‘It’s like an explosion in your mouth’,” she says. At a Jonas Brothers concert, she happened to be standing in front of a top executive at a local arena, who made a comment about her shirt. “We started up an interesting conversation about ice cream and unique ice cream trucks,” she says.

“He ended up booking an event for his daughter’s birthday party and we are now talking about us handling all the ice cream sales at his arena.” Great business idea for the Pinoy ice cream lovers market.

This is a great Negosyo idea for entrepreneurs to partner with bar owners in Metro Manila, Makati, The Fort, Eastwood and other night life entertainment in the Philippines for more extra earnings and gimmick as well. According to a story in The Wall Street Journal in the U.S., for women like Giovanna Coluccio who peddle novelty drinks in Manhattan bars like Turtle Bay, selling shots is a game and a science. Each interaction with a potential customer is an investment.

Coluccio is one shot girl in a stable of 25, nearly all of whom are college-educated (though most hold advanced degrees and day jobs). They’re managed by former J.P. Morgan and Bear Stearns analysts Bryan Auld and Dominic D’Aleo, who in 2007 co-founded Auld D’Leo Inc., which outsources the services of shot girls to bars in Manhattan.

Having started their company after observing the disorganization and mistreatment of the women, the founders say they saw a business opportunity. Margins are high when attractive women wearing revealing tops and short shorts sell trays of Jell-O shots and watered-down tequila in a plastic test tube. The drinks cost 15 cents to make and sell for $3 or $4.

Auld and D’Aleo won’t say exactly how much the company makes, but they say profit has increased 16% since 2007 and they’re bringing in several hundred thousand dollars a year in profits outsourcing women to sports bars like Turtle Bay, Calico Jacks and McFadden’s.

Their product is recession proof. It’s all about micro-sales, selling something extremely cheap in mass volume. This is best practice number six: “Do not spend too much time with a patron or group of patrons. The foundation of our strategy relies on high-volume sale propositions. We must walk the fine line of being quantity salesman, while giving respect to those who purchase our items.”

Shot girls take home between $300 and $600 a night. They’re paid 25 cents for every shot they sell, with the rest coming from tips, which vary between $1 and $20 per round. The very drunk and smitten will drop the odd hundred-dollar bill. After the young woman gets her cut, the cash is evenly split between the bar and the company managers. Negosyantes out there this is a great negosyo for you to partner with bar owners.

Six-hundred dollars a night is a better rate than most women in their 20s can earn, but it’s hard work—shot girls must counter rejection with aplomb, continuing to smile and sell to the last.

Attention Philippine Photographers here is a new service that can add new twist to your wedding services. A report from Tampa Tribune in the U.S., that hefty leather-bound, gold-edged wedding photo album is getting some new competition, the iPad.

In addition to offering a traditional album, a growing number of wedding photographers are starting to sell Apple iPad computer tablets, pre-loaded with hundreds of photos and video of the couple’s engagement, wedding and reception – some with lavish digital layouts and multi-media presentations. And the couples are buying them, fast, partly because guys love them.

“If I’m presenting photo packages to a bride and groom, I can tell you when the guy sees that iPad, he sits up, and gets excited for the first time in the whole wedding-planning process,” said Stephen Yanni, a photographer who does weddings across Florida. Since starting to offer iPad albums just two months ago, about half his clients are buying them.

“You may not lug out that 40-page, 30-pound album, except to force the relatives to flip through it on the couch,” Yanni said, “but brides will carry around that iPad wherever they go, and show it to every single person she meets.”

Photographers like Yanni see that as a major marketing opportunity and represent a rapid shift in wedding photography, catering to a thoroughly digital generation of couples who want their pictures on digital photo frames, as their computer wallpaper, on videogame consoles, on cell phone screens – and most importantly, on the bride’s Facebook page.
