Burger Shops are mushrooming around the Philippines and heres a new twist to the founder of Domino’s Pizza knows delivery. One day, he asked himself, what’s more popular than pizza? Hamburgers, of course! a report from Naples News:

“We will franchise, but not immediately,” a confident Monaghan said. “This first store is a test. If there’s anyone who knows how to grow an organization it’s me.”

He thinks the business could be even bigger than Domino’s one day, with 6,000 stores in the U.S. alone, and that many or more in the rest of the world.

He’s kept the new concept simple, based on what he learned from past mistakes at Domino’s, which he sold in 1998 after building it into a vast pizza empire with more than 6,000 stores. He sold Domino’s to focus on building Ave Maria University, which he founded in 2003.

Gyrene Hamburger will only sell hamburgers, which will make the operation run more efficiently and speed delivery. There will be no sides and no drinks.

There will be two hamburger choices, with each burger costing a little less than $6: The classic with ketchup, mustard and pickle and the deluxe with lettuce, tomato and mayonnaise. Both hamburgers will have double Angus beef patties, plus cheese and bacon.

“That’s it. No substitutes,” Monaghan said.

Attention coffee shop owners here in the Philippines, this new business idea will give you an edge. When a plastic lid is heated from a hot beverage it emits a scent of plastic. Even a hint of plastic odor will adversely affect the coffee. The problem is hot beverages create thermal waves that hit the coffee lid and cause it to release this undesirable smell.

Since taste is 80% aroma and because smell is our most powerful sense, this is a real problem for companies that sell coffee out of cups with plastic lids.

To solve this problem, Hong Kong-based MINT has introduced a plastic coffee cup lid with a coffee smell embedded in the lid. According to the company, the the Aroma Lid overcomes all plastic smell and taste issues – making it the ‘best tasting’ coffee lid in the world. Coffee shop owners who will be the first to use this product will definitely have an edge to there competition.

A report from CNN Money tells a story about an attorney that went into trading spices. After a decade as a divorce attorney, Alexander Rhoads grew weary of “seeing people in conflict,” he says. “It took a toll on me.”

A foodie whose own kitchen is stocked with 150 seasonings, he began thinking about the spice store he loved visiting in his native Chicago. After two years studying similar shops across the world (his wife, Jennifer, a human resources director for a financial firm, did reconnaissance when she traveled for work), he leased a 1,700-square-foot store in Des Moines in early 2010.

He quit the law firm and by September opened AllSpice Culinarium, a purveyor of spices, herbs, oils, and vinegars. Premium spice shop here in the Philippines is seldom seen, perhaps opening one is a new negosyo idea.

There is now an easy way to boil egg with no shell. If you love to make things using hard boiled eggs but hate messing with shells, you will love Betsy Kaufman’s latest invention. Betsy was making breakfast one morning when an idea struck her. What if you could hard boil eggs without their shells? By the time her coffee was done, she had a complete marketing plan, reports Chron.

First thing Kaufman did was hop on the Internet and see if a product like Eggies already existed. She couldn’t find anything that made hard-boiled eggs without a shell. “My heart literally started pounding,” Kaufman said. “I thought, ‘This is the idea!’ I had an adrenaline rush. I’ve always been a fan of unique, fun products and I’ve had a few ideas in the past. One was for disposable sheets for college students who live in dorms. Another idea was for an ottoman that you could unroll and use as a mattress. Those ideas never made it. But I really thought that a product that made hard-boiled eggs without a shell would be a success.”

Kaufman sent her idea – and $25 – to Edison Nation, a company that researches the sales potential of household gizmos and helps inventors bring them to market. Often these are products you don’t need, but can’t live without. At least it seems that way at 3 a.m. Edison Nation liked Kaufman’s idea and partnered with Allstar Products Group, the company behind Snuggies, the Topsy Turvy tomato planter and the EmeryCat feline nail groomer, to manufacture and market Eggies. This product is great for restaurants here in the Philippines. It’s a great negosyo ideas to be the first one to distribute it here in the country.

I’m not really a coffee drinker but sometines I always have this problem when going out with friends to coffee shops for a hang out. The coffee serve is usually very hot that it will burn your tongue and suffer no taste buds for the next days. Coffee is always more enjoyable if it’s the correct temperature. Too hot and it burns your mouth. Too cold and, well, it’s just cold mud in a mug.

Finally a device called Coffee Joulies were invented to solve both problem. They look like large polished stainless steel coffee beans and are about the size of an ice cube. You put two or three in your mug and pour your coffee over them and the non-toxic liquid inside the shell absorbs excess heat to cool down your coffee to a perfect drinking temperature. As your coffee cools below the temperature of the liquid inside the Coffee Joulies, heat is then transfered back into your coffee. This two-stage process works to ensure that your coffee maintains it’s perfect drinking temperature longer, making for a more enjoyable drinking experience.

This is a great opportunity to coffee shops here in the Philippines to offer this new kind of product for added income. You may visit there website at joulies.com.

We all know, you can’t easily travel to North Korea, but a restaurant near Washington DC in the U.S. can give you a taste of what’s in the country. You can sample their recipes at a new North Korean restaurant called Pyongyang Soondae (or Pyongyang Sausage in English): Washington City Paper has the full details of the story:

The first thing you notice on the menu is what isn’t there: beef. It’s the essential feature of South Korean restaurants, particularly in barbecue form: beef ribs and bulgogi.

But Pyongyang Soondae—Pyongyang Sausage—isn’t a South Korean restaurant. It’s North Korean, so the menu skews toward seafood, poultry—and pork, pork, pork. The staple meat of the South is nowhere to be seen, except in a single soup dish. That would be naengmyun, the one northern dish every Korean knows, a buckwheat noodle soup with cucumbers and slices of beef, served cold, often with ice cubes in the broth.

Most Korean restaurants advertise “Pyongyang naengmyun” as a mark of authenticity, regardless of whether their chefs have ever been to the totalitarian-ruled city that serves as the soup’s namesake. Pyongyang Soondae does them one better, serving its version with balls of pheasant meat.

It is a really fascinating story. The restaurant is run by a former North Korean spy who converted to Christianity and devotes a portion the proceeds to refugee rescue and relief work, and efforts to oppose the Pyongyang government. Of the approximately fifteen North Koreans who have been resettled in the D.C. area under the North Korean Human Rights Act, eight work for the restaurant. This would be a great negosyo idea for those planning to open a new restaurant with a unique theme in the Philippines.

Did Apple see this coming? iPads are beginning to replace menus in the U.S., just as e-readers have begun to replace hard copy books. Restaurant goers will have an opportunity to custom order their meals with just a touch of a finger. A news at USAToday talked with the founders of Stacked: Food Well Built, a new restaurant chain that will put an iPad/menu on every table in its three new locations opening soon in Southern California:

The two co-founders — who founded the BJ’s Restaurant chain — plan to place 100 iPads in each restaurant. Diners will use them to look at meal options; design their own burgers, pizzas and salads; and, if they want, use the iPads to pay for the meals. But, says co-founder Paul Motenko, “We’re not going to market it as an iPad restaurant.” When Stacked founders first considered a concept with guests creating their own meals and ordering them on tabletop devices, the iPad didn’t yet exist. IPads were the breakthrough, Motenko says.

Others have tried iPads. Restaurants by Delta Air Lines gates at New York’s John F. Kennedy and LaGuardia airport installed iPads at tables that let guests custom-order meals. Bone’s Restaurant in Atlanta uses iPads for its wine list. Co-owner Richard Lewis says wine sales jumped 20% since the iPads were added six months ago. Someday, they’ll be at all restaurants, Lewis says. “It’s the future”. Be the first to start an innovative restaurant here in the Philippines with an Ipad menu.

A member-owned supermarket or grocery store is not so common here in the Philippines except for some grocery stores under large cooperatives. But this member-owned supermarket has a different twist that may click here in the Philippines for thrifty Filipinos.

A supermarket is recently launch in London called the People’s Supermarket. Only members can shop at the People’s Supermarket, but they all get a 10 percent discount on prices as well as a say in how the store is run. In exchange, members pay an annual membership fee of GBP 25, and they also pledge to volunteer four hours of their time per month working as store staff. Because the supermarket’s workforce is nearly all volunteers, staff costs are kept low this way — an advantage that can be passed on in lower prices. Any profits that are earned, meanwhile, get put back into the store to bring down prices even further.

Food co-ops are not uncommon in the US, but it’s interesting to see their reemergence in the UK following a bout of unusually tough times. Could this be a great solution for the Filipinos to end poverty in our country…?

Have you ever noticed that pizza parlor with free deliveries are proliferating around the Philippines nowadays? You might be thinking of starting your own too, well here is a good niche negosyo idea for pizza from About.com’s Entrepreneur Guide they recently discovered, an entrepreneur who is rolling in dough…pizza dough.

I recently attended a charity event on eastern Long Island and met Matthew Michel, the founder of Rolling in Dough Pizza Co., a mobile pizza truck with a wood-fired oven that caters parties on Long Island and in New York City. The pizza was delicious, custom made, and prepared fast. The truck was a work of art — a restored 1943 International Harvester.

What led you to start this particular business?

During the summer of 2007, my sister decided she would have a pizza truck at her rehearsal dinner. I thought, what a bizarre idea, and then I saw the truck and fell in love. Not only was it an antique truck, with a wood-fired oven on it but it was good pizza and a huge hit with all the guests. On my drive back to Long Island I quickly realized that I would be starting my own truck on Long Island. To me it felt like the perfect demographic for this type of business and it turned out I was right.

What’s been the most surprising thing about the business?

I was very surprised at how quickly people started finding out about me. After only a few weeks, I was getting calls from Westchester and New York City, not to mention the Hamptons. I totally underestimated the power of word of mouth. I knew the truck would generate free press but beyond that it’s all word of mouth and people sure can talk.

What’s the most challenging part of the business?

Keeping everything in working order on the truck. Everything is constantly being exposed to the elements. If the wind doesn’t break the hinge on the refrigerator door, then the electrical re-charging system will attempt to fail. If everything is functioning with the back part of the truck, then most likely something will happen to the truck itself. It never ends and it can be very, very frustrating.
