We are well-acquainted with the many creative uses of the shipping container, like restaurants, clinics and offices. This negosyo idea is called a Boxpark — a pop-up shopping mall planned for launch this summer in London that’s created out of no fewer than 60 shipping containers. I am thinking of a super tiangge for this here in the PHilippines.

To give you more idea, the Boxpark is slated to appear in London’s Shoreditch area this August, Boxpark will house more than 50 small stores in a two-story structure constructed on Bishopsgate Goods Yard, a former railway site that’s been unused for more than 40 years. The site isn’t scheduled for development for several years still, so Boxpark’s temporary solution works well for all parties. Conceived by Roger Wade — creator of the Boxfresh brand as well as fashion brand consultancy Brands Inc. — in partnership with real estate developers Hammerson and Ballymore, Boxpark will focus on small, independent brands that are hand-selected and offered space by invitation only. The result will be a mix of international fashion, arts and lifestyle brands along with galleries and cafés.

Pop-up stores have been around for some time like tiangges here in the Phillipines, but it’s a change to see this concept applied to an entire pop-up mall in a modern and attractive way and its movable too which reduces the risk of wrong location or saturated market already.

Everyone seems to know that Black Friday is the shopping day after Thanksgiving day in the U.S.

However, Cyber Monday is the online analogue of Black Friday, on the Monday following Thanksgiving is still something not so popular specially here in the Philippines where we can actually participate since all orders are online.

A new poll released exclusively to dealnews by Lightspeed Research shows that one third of american shoppers still don’t know what Cyber Monday is.

That number doesn’t fluctuate much among age groups, geography or household income, although those earning over $50,000 have the most awareness.

Cyber Monday only sprang into the lexicon five years ago, promoted by the Shop.org division of the National Retail Federation as a way to spotlight Internet retail sales.

The NRF declined to comment and instead pointed to its own research showed that 80% of shoppers were familiar with the term and that nearly 100 million people shopped during that day last year. For Filipinos this is a chance to order great items from U.S. stores thru online here in the Philippines next monday. You can actually use forwarders in the U.S. to deliver your orders in the states and have it forwarded here in the Philippines.

A member-owned supermarket or grocery store is not so common here in the Philippines except for some grocery stores under large cooperatives. But this member-owned supermarket has a different twist that may click here in the Philippines for thrifty Filipinos.

A supermarket is recently launch in London called the People’s Supermarket. Only members can shop at the People’s Supermarket, but they all get a 10 percent discount on prices as well as a say in how the store is run. In exchange, members pay an annual membership fee of GBP 25, and they also pledge to volunteer four hours of their time per month working as store staff. Because the supermarket’s workforce is nearly all volunteers, staff costs are kept low this way — an advantage that can be passed on in lower prices. Any profits that are earned, meanwhile, get put back into the store to bring down prices even further.

Food co-ops are not uncommon in the US, but it’s interesting to see their reemergence in the UK following a bout of unusually tough times. Could this be a great solution for the Filipinos to end poverty in our country…?

Always looking for an easy way to clean your grimy mobile device while on the go? Here is a great negosyo idea for you. A Husband-and wife-run company FIFT has the answer in the form of the stylish Wipe Shirt, reports AOL Small Business.

Designed by Katsunari and Ami Igarashi, this white button-down shirt is equipped with a built-in microfiber cloth for gently wiping down mobile devices or eyeglasses.

The Wipe Shirt is available in two different styles: one with the microfiber patch sewn onto the shirt’s bottom and one with the patch located on the cuff of the sleeve, in sizes small to extra-large.

The shirt is yet another product in the couples’ innovative repertoire at FIFT that furthers the company’s stated mission — according to design blog Smith & Tamago — to “promote interaction between their products and the user.”

The shirt is also fashion forward, as it was designed with the help of a clothing designer with a degree from the Antwerp Royal Academy of Fine Arts.

The microfiber fabric is cutting-edge, provided by leading tech-fabric maker Unitika.

It’s called Rainbow roses, the brainchild of Dutch flower shop owner Peter Van de Werken, are colorful roses that are made by injecting die into the stem of the roses while they are still growing. This results in the color being drawn up and absorbed by the petals of the flower.

Happy New Year everyone, it’s been a very busy the past week to start the new year right. Negosyoideas.com reports to you a review from Trendspotter Springwise over the holidays all smart negosyo ideas they covered in 2009 and selected some of what they believe will provide entrepreneurs with plenty of opportunities this 2010. Needless to say, it was a huge challenge to pick from such a wide range of innovative concepts.

Small-scale food production using membership models

The past year or two saw a huge increase in innovative, upscale mobile food purveyors working from trucks and selling everything from premium ice-cream to Korean BBQ tacos. Requiring an even lower investment, the next wave could be small-scale culinary subscription services, which allow fledgling entrepreneurs to get a foothold in the food business, and create a steady income and a loyal client base for future business activities.

Sample stores, cafes & vending machines

Sophisticated sampling—dubbed tryvertising by trendwatching.com—isn’t new. On the rise, however, are dedicated spaces that facilitate sampling by a variety of brands, attracting consumers through the irresistible offer of free goods. Following sampling stores in Spain, sampling cafes in Tokyo and sample vending machines in Belgium, we suspect this concept will spread even further in 2010.

Remote farming for consumers

According to Wikipedia, farm simulation game FarmVille has become the most popular game application on Facebook with 73.8 million active users in January 2010. Offering consumers a way to remotely control a patch of land that will actually provide them with an edible harvest is a new Italian start-up: Le Verdure Del Mio Orto, which lets anyone build an organic garden right from their web browser. As the produce grows, it’s picked and delivered to the customer’s door within 24 hours. Weekly deliveries are part of the package.

Paying consumers to promote products they use and love

As our sister-site trendwatching.com pointed out in its sellsumers briefing, selling is the new saving: a recession-induced need for cash plus an ever-growing infrastructure are fueling concepts that help ordinary consumers make money instead of spending it. One of the easiest ways to do so is by taking on the role of marketeer for products they already use and love: from promoting concerts by their favourite bands, to helping small companies launch new products.

Single-use toilet bag turns human waste into fertilizer

A potential solution to a problem that 2.6 billion people have to deal with: no access to a toilet. Designed for use sitting, squatting or standing, the single-use, biodegradable plastic Peepoo bag is lined with a urea-coated gauze layer that disinfects all waste. Used bags are odour-free for at least 24 hours and are safe for burial underground. Within two to four weeks after use, their contents are converted to high-quality fertiliser—something that’s also rare in many areas and could become a source of income and further enrichment for individuals or villages.

Here is a new trend of toy that is a hot item in other countries to fight obesity on children just playing on couch with there PSP or console games. This toy I think is a reinvention of the old toy we have in the olden days called tarak-tarak but is now colorful and with a brand name to capture the market.

Making the Sprinta car perform tricks requires some skill and practice, encouraging children to spend time running around and building up their proficiency with the toy.
The interest has been high from a number of retailers across New Zealand and Australia.

It’s not quite so simple anymore, here’s a report from the The New York Times.

Identify product areas that interest you, and seek a niche. Rather than sell, say, digital cameras, you might sell a specialty tripod or other accessories that aren’t already sold abundantly online.

Skip McGrath, an eBay Powerseller,, started with automatic pepper mills. Based in Anacortes, Wash., he decided to sell specialty kitchen gadgets on eBay. “They’re light, easy to ship and I’m one of the few sellers selling them,” he said. “If I had pots and pans, I’d have 200 competitors.”

Find a reliable wholesaler who offers low enough prices to generate high enough profit margins on resale. McGrath, who said he generated roughly $150,000 in annual revenue with his eBay store, buys his pepper mills from a Seattle-based wholesale dealer. Finding the right wholesaler can require an extensive search.

Many sellers, McGrath said, source their products offline, through local wholesalers or flea markets. Comparison shopping can still be done online, using sites like Liquidation.com and eBay, which offer wholesale items in bulk.

Selling on Amazon is more automated and requires less buyer interaction. The site collects money from customers and deposits it in seller accounts. In most categories of goods, eBay requires that sellers accept payment only through electronic systems, including its own PayPal system.

Amazon has no auctions — all items are sold at fixed prices — and automatically sets the shipping fees depending on the item being sold. EBay sellers can choose their own shipping fees and have more control over the look and timing of listings.

McGrath said that eBay was still the better option for selling clothes, toys and household goods. Books, music and other electronic media, he said, tend to do better on Amazon.
